Create App Passwords for Legacy applications.
After you’ve completed registering your account for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your Microsoft account, you may need to create App Passwords for legacy applications that don’t work with MFA.
If you have not yet registered your account for MFA, please follow the instructions in this article before you proceed.
Please note: If the option to select App Password in Step 2 of the “Add an additional authentication method” section below is not available, please contact your system administrator to enable this feature.
Sign in to your work or school account
1. Click on the button below to sign in to your Microsoft account. The sign in page will open in a new tab.
2. If you’re already signed in, you may skip to the next section – “Add an additional authentication method”. On the Sign In page, enter your email address and click Next.

3. On the following page, enter your password and click Sign in.

Add an additional authentication method
1. If already not selected, click on the Security Info tab in the left column of the page. On the Security Info page, you will see the Microsoft Authenticator listed along with other authentication methods you’ve already created. We will now add an App Password to the list. Click on the “Add method” link.

2. From the drop-down in the pop-up window, select App password and click Add.
Please note:Â If the option to select App Password is not available, please contact your system administrator to enable this feature.

3. On the next page of the pop-up window, type in the name of the app where you will be using the password (example: 4 Star Apps) and click Next.

4. A new App Password will be generated on the following pop-up page. Click the icon on the right to copy the password and paste it in a safe place on your computer.

5. You may now use your email address and the app password with the Legacy application. If you don’t have access to change your password in the Legacy application, your system administrator may ask you to submit your password in a secure form.
